Sometimes it occurs when the machine is already on, and I’ll need to unplug it to get it to turn off, while other times it will occur when the machine is turned off. The only flaw I’ve noticed with this sound machine is that occasionally it needs to be unplugged and then plugged back in to get it working, which happens once every few weeks or so. I’ve even used it for the dog (albeit on a quieter setting) for times when I know we have deliveries coming to the house or strangers coming over for a quick visit and he needs to be put away (fellow pet parents with anxious dogs will understand). If I’m able to sneak away for a nap I always turn the white noise machine on. Not only do we use the sound machine regularly for our daughter, but I catch myself using it for myself even if she’s not there. Living in a small bungalow with a dog who loves to bark at everything going on outside the house, I honestly don’t know how we’d function without it. Our daughter is over a year old now and we still use this white noise machine for every nap, as well as overnight. Let me tell you, it’s been an absolute lifesaver. After some online research and reading lots of reviews, I decided to switch things up and try out the Yogasleep Whish White Noise Sound Machine from Amazon. Plus, it was battery-powered, and with the amount we used it, we were going through batteries quickly. It was alright, but it wasn’t nearly loud enough (these babies need it to be loud to be effective). The first white noise machine we bought was a travel-sized option designed for babies. But what I didn’t expect is that it would help me sleep just as much as it helps our daughter! It really made that much of a difference. After experiencing it for myself, a white noise machine would likely be at the top of my list of essential items for a new baby. Other parents out there will know that a white noise machine is one of the best purchases you can make as a new parent to help your newborns sleep. She may look like her dad, but the poor girl takes after me when it comes to sleeping. While I’ve technically used various forms of “white noise” to help me sleep throughout the years (a fan, the TV, listening to a podcast), I’d never actually purchased a white noise machine-or even thought about it-until my daughter was born in 2021. One of my greatest aspirations in life is to be like the people who can fall asleep in mere minutes no matter where they are or what time it is, but 26 years on I’ve begun to accept it’s probably just not in the cards for me. I’ve oscillated between needing complete silence and darkness, to needing the TV and a loud fan on in order to fall asleep, more times than I care to count at this point. When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, I’ve tried a lot of things over the years.
